  23. NOTE ** PRODUCT SELECTION CONSIDERATIONS:  In addition to
  24.         options noted in the text, the following are some
  25.         important considerations in selection of unit
  26.         skylights:
  27. NOTE **
  28. NOTE ** ENERGY CONSERVATION:  Double glazing or double
  29.         domes are recommended.
  30. NOTE **
  31. NOTE ** CONDENSATION:  Under certain conditions of high
  32.         humidity and/or large inside to outside temperature
  33.         differentials, condensation may occur on the
  34.         aluminum framing and plastic glazing material.
  35.         Double glazing will usually reduce the occurrence
  36.         of condensation on the glazing, but will not
  37.         totally eliminate it.  Since plastic glazing cannot
  38.         be hermetically sealed, condensation can form
  39.         between the double layers of plastic but it will
  40.         normally dissipate as the air space is heated by
  41.         the sun.  Sealed domes, where the flanges are
  42.         sealed together ("bed" sealed), are more resistant
  43.         to the formation of condensation and will reduce
  44.         accumulation of dust and foreign matter.  Sealed
  45.         domes are available for most dome glazed unit
  46.         skylights at additional cost.
  47. NOTE ** PLASTIC GLAZING:  Acrylic plastic is the standard
  48.         glazing type, in clear and 3 standard colors.  A
  49.         full range of custom translucent and transparent
  50.         tints is also available.  Polycarbonate sheet may
  51.         be requried for greater impact resistance or to
  52.         meet some fire code requirements.  Refer to your
  53.         local building code for acceptable types and
  54.         possible square foot area restrictions.  Do not use
  55.         abrasion resistant plastic materials for domes,
  56.         since they should not be thermoformed.

  179. 1.7 WARRANTY
  180.  
  181.     A.  Skylight Warranty:  Provide written warranty signed by
  182.         manufacturer that products are free of defects in
  183.         material and workmanship.  Include repair or replacement
  184.         of work for five years from date of completion.  Defects
  185.         are defined to include uncontrolled leakage of water and
  186.         abnormal aging or deterioration.
  187. NOTE ** Delete the following paragraph if fluoropolymer
  188.         finish is not specified.  Anodized and baked enamel
  189.         finishes are normally covered by the standard one-
  190.         year warranty, but additional coverage may be
  191.         available pending manufacturer review of geographic
  192.         location and at additional cost.

  194.     B.  Fluoropolymer Finish Warranty:  Provide written warranty
  195.         signed by manufacturer and finisher that finish is free
  196.         of defects in material and workmanship.  Include repair
  197.         or replacement of work which exhibits defects for five

  199.         include peeling, chipping, chalking, fading, abnormal

  205. 2.1 MANUFACTURERS

  231. 2.2 SKYLIGHTS
  232.  
  233.     A.  Skylights - Performance Requirements:  Design to
  234.         withstand the following loads:
  235. NOTE ** Enter the required performance values in the
  236.         paragraphs below.  Unit skylights used in low-rise
  237.         construction where the roof elevation is 60 feet or
  238.         less above grade should be designed to support a
  239.         snow load of 20 psf and negative wind pressure of
  240.         20 psf, minimum.  Greater capacity may be required
  241.         depending on code requirements or project location.
  242.         Most Naturalite unit skylights are designed for 40
  243.         psf snow load.
  244.         1.  Snow load:  ___ psf (___ kPa).
  245.         2.  Wind load:  ___ psf (___ kPa) negative.
  246.         3.  Seismic loads:  As required by applicable code.
  247.         4.  Dead loads.

  291.         be entered to identify different skylight types on

  465.             type glazing retainers using continuous black EPDM
  466.             glazing gaskets above and below glazing.
  467. NOTE ** Rafter members need to be spaced at 4 feet on
  468.         center for snow load up to 30 psf and at 3 feet on
  469.         center for snow load up to 40 psf.  Standard
  470.         spacing means that the manufacturer will select the
  471.         spacing.  If custom spacing is selected, be sure
  472.         that the spacing is shown on the drawings and that
  473.         it will be acceptable to the manufacturer.

  633. 3.1 EXAMINATION
