SECTION 08620
UNIT SKYLIGHTS
NOTE ** Naturalite skylights with acrylic and polycarbonate
glazing.
NOTE **
NOTE ** This section is based on products manufactured by
Naturalite Skylight Systems, Butler Manufacturing
Company, which is located at:
NOTE ** 803 Airport Road
NOTE ** P.O.Box 629
NOTE ** Terrell, TX 75160
NOTE ** Tel: (800) 259-7941
NOTE ** Fax: (972) 551-6129
NOTE **
NOTE ** Naturalite makes square domed and pyramid units,
circular, ridge type and barrel vaulted units, with
and without integral curbs. Some models are
available with thermal break and sealed domes.
NOTE **
NOTE ** SECTION 08620 - PLASTIC UNIT SKYLIGHTS, Copyright
1997, The Architect's Catalog, Inc.
NOTE ** PRODUCT SELECTION CONSIDERATIONS: In addition to
options noted in the text, the following are some
important considerations in selection of unit
skylights:
NOTE **
NOTE ** ENERGY CONSERVATION: Double glazing or double
domes are recommended.
NOTE **
NOTE ** CONDENSATION: Under certain conditions of high
humidity and/or large inside to outside temperature
differentials, condensation may occur on the
aluminum framing and plastic glazing material.
Double glazing will usually reduce the occurrence
of condensation on the glazing, but will not
totally eliminate it. Since plastic glazing cannot
be hermetically sealed, condensation can form
between the double layers of plastic but it will
normally dissipate as the air space is heated by
the sun. Sealed domes, where the flanges are
sealed together ("bed" sealed), are more resistant
to the formation of condensation and will reduce
accumulation of dust and foreign matter. Sealed
domes are available for most dome glazed unit
skylights at additional cost.
NOTE ** PLASTIC GLAZING: Acrylic plastic is the standard
glazing type, in clear and 3 standard colors. A
full range of custom translucent and transparent
tints is also available. Polycarbonate sheet may
be requried for greater impact resistance or to
meet some fire code requirements. Refer to your
local building code for acceptable types and
possible square foot area restrictions. Do not use
abrasion resistant plastic materials for domes,
since they should not be thermoformed.
